Pharma Trend confirms the importance of biotechnology

The great doctors’ survey Pharma Trend 2011 is expected with excitement. In Pharma Trend 2010 12 drugs in 10 categories were awarded specialist as innovative. 25% of these drugs, which doctors describe as innovative, are produced using biotechnology. One in four of the winning products is therefore a biopharmaceutical. "Thisconfirms the importance of biotechnology research here in Germany," said Dr. Dieter Jung, editor of the journal PharmaBarometer, which initiates the survey since 12 years.

The growing demand for biopharmaceuticals in Germany continues in 2010, as the VFA reports. “The new drugs derived from biotech production have proved how well they can help patients and are prescribed to more patients”, said Dr. Frank Mathias, chairman of vfa bio and CEO of MediGene AG, Martinsried, at the launch of the new industry report "Medical Biotechnology 2011 ". Another result of the report: Biotechnology remains an important driver of innovation. So the numbers of drugs tested in clinical trials in the last phase increased in percentage compared to 2009.

This year's survey Pharma Trend will also be exciting: How do doctors estimate the power of innovation of biopharmaceuticals? The results are given on 13.09.2011 at the award ceremony Pharma Trend Image and Innovation Award at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. Physicians from 10 medical specialties were asked for the most innovative product and the best pharmaceutical companies.
